We all get nervous before a first date. It’s completely normal, but some of us are affected more by the pre-date nerve jitters. This is why we decided to make a list of things you should definitely avoid doing on a first date if you want to see this person again for a second one.
Don’t drink too much
You don’t want this person you just met have to carry you home, or try and understand you through slurred words. We agree that Dutch courage is great, have a glass not or max. 2 of wine. Just make sure you know your limits.
Don’t talk about your Ex
Avoid talking about your ex at all costs. Actually avoid talking about any other previous or potential future dates, it won’t make you seem appealing or in high demand.
Don’t just talk about yourself
If you talk when you’re nervous, try and remember to breathe and let your date get a word in too. Ask questions and avoid just talking about yourself. You’ll come across as self-centered, and that’s not an attractive trait to have.
Don’t sit on your phone
You’re on a date! All your friend, twitter and Instagram followers can wait until after your date for a response or an update. It’s rude to look at your phone every two minutes, so don’t do it.
Don’t fake it
Be yourself, at the end of the day you want this person to like you for who you are, not who you’re pretending to be, and if you end up going on a second and third date, faking it can get pretty tiring.
Don’t talk about Serious Topics
Keep the conversation topics quite light hearted. Going into politics or religion for example might be too heavy for a first date. And if you have points of views on a topic don’t get into a full blown debate about it. Give your opinion, agree to disagree and move on.
Now that you’re armed with the best tips on what not to do on your date, you can just relax and enjoy it. If this person doesn’t turn out to be the love of your life, at least you know it wasn’t something you said or did, and you can always find plenty of more potential dates on one of these dating sites.
